Marilyn Ocker has been teaching theatre in high school and middle school for 34 years. After receiving her BFA with an emphasis in acting and directing, from SFASU, she started teaching high school at Columbia High in Brazoria County from 1990 - 96. In those years, she won at every level of competition at UILOAP from Zone to Region, receiving alternate to state in 1995, then after getting married and moving to Houston, she taught theatre and speech at Thornton middle school in Cy Fair ISD for 9 years before moving on to Cypress Creek High school for 8 years. She made 2 state UIL appearances in 2008 and 2011 . In 2014, Mrs. Ocker went back to middle school in Humble ISD for 2 years at Timberwood middle school before joining Spring ISD at Dueitt middle school for the 2016 - 17 school year. She has been a certified UIL adjudicator, judging zones, districts, and bi - district contests as well as middle school UIL competitions for the last few years. She has also been a professional actress for over 10 years working primarily at Texas Repertory Theatre in Northwest Houston. Marilyn has been married to her husband Sean for 29 years, and they have three children. Conor 25, a junior transferring to Sam Houston State University, Kieran 21, Operations Assistant Manager at Hurricane Harbor Splashtown and Quinn 20 a Sophmore at Lone Star studing creative writing and a working musician. Marilyn loves to travel and has taken students on trips to London, New York, Italy, Ireland, Wales, Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain and other amazing journeys. Marilyn is very excited to be working with high school students, looks forward to helping reach their full potential creating realistic characters, stretching their scope of talent, and ultimately making audiences think.
